On the inward flight, from Lae, the plane  could land at  the old  [Seabees wartime construct edl airfield on Vella Lavella and pick up mail. This 'First Flight off Vella Lavella'  cover inaugurated  the internal airmail service  from 'Barakoma' airfield, near Bilua, to Honiara. At Honiara  the mail was postmarked  and despatched on the return flight back  to Lae. In this  instance machine and handst amps on the reverse show arrival  in Auckland on 8th May and repostings  in Auckland on 9th and  10th May. Scarce with great routing.
