Description: Rare first acceptance of mail for Alexandria, Egypt from Australia for carriage on the first regular Imperial Airways/Qantas Australia-England service, Sydney to Alexandria bs 22/12, via Cairo 22/12, also large violet oval Thomas Cook Cairo 24/12 receiver, blue/grey printed souvenir cover franked 1/7d. Flown Brisbane-Darwin by Qantas, then Darwin-Alexandria by IAW IW 298. Only 463 items were flown from Australia to all points other than London, viz to the Far East, Middle East, the Med, Europe and Africa. Thus some sections are likely to be great rarities. This item is likely to be one such.
