Description: Crash at Sandoway River, Burma 7/6/31 of Air Orient plane, Fokker FVIIb, PH-AEO, of the Saigon-Marseilles service, which departed Saigon 5/6/31 and crashed into the Sandoway River, near Akyab, on 7/6. Plane destroyed but portion of mail survived and was sent to Marseilles arriving 2/7. Blue/red imprint 'Par Avion' registered cover from this flight addressed to Paris, originating Vietnam Hai- Phong/Tonkin 1/6/31 cds and carried to Saigon bs 4/6 on the (under construction) Trans-Indochina railway hence the option of acceleration and the 'Service Accelere' imprint (see Picirilli p80), also the cachet 'COURRIER ACCIDENTE LE 7 JUIN 1931' on the front applied by the French postal authorities in Paris. The cover is franked F1.41 which is the correct RATE for a 2x 60c/10g air fee plus 6c colonial plus 15c registration. A superb exhibit ready item in fine condition, ex Proud.
