Covers with flight, route, and postage details (ex Proud archives) supplemented with data from Wingent's monographs on IAW Aircraft Movements 1927-1939.Description: Interrupted flight, Austria to South Africa, VIENNA TO JOHANNESBURG via Trieste and Alexandria 2/1/33 transit cds. Carried by Imperial Airways Africa southbound AS92. Cover posted Vienna 30/12/32, departed Athens 4/12 on Sylvanus flying boat via service AS92 at 07.20 on 4 Dec. and arrived Jo'burg. 4 hours late on the 10th. The service departed Brindisi one day late due to bad weather and was further delayed at Mirabella, resulting in arrival at Cairo being two days late. There, further delay was caused by the need to re-sort the European mails which resulted in a letter of complaint from I.A. to the G.P.O., London, (a copy is included in this lot ). Airmail etiquette cover RATED S.2.90 for 50dr ordinary and S2.40 double air fee. Scarce item, hard to find.
