Covers with flight, route, and postage details (ex Proud archives) supplemented with data from Wingent's monographs on IAW Aircraft Movements 1927-1939.Description: Interrupted flight, JOHANNESBURG to LEIPZIG, delayed one day at Khartoum due to breakdown of City of Glasgow causing a Short Calcutta flying boat to be employed from Khartoum to Alexandria. Cover datestamped Johannesburg 29/6 and backstamped Berlin 10/7, red Berlin C2 'Mit Luftpost' receiver and typed 'Per Airmail Via Cairo'. It was flown by service AN69 which departed to schedule on 29/6 and arrived Khartoum on 4/7. The AW Argosy City of Glasgow also arrived at Khartoum on 4/7 operating service AS70. It should have departed the next day operating service AN69 but this service did not depart until 6/7 and was operated by Short Calcutta City of Swanage flying boat, which must have been the only aircraft available as it flew right through, one day late, to Alexandria 7/7 and on by Satyrus to Athens also arriving one day late on 9/7. Then flown to Berlin by DLH.
