Description: First regular eastbound all air service from SOUTHAMPTON TO BAGHDAD, ms receiver Hinaid 10/2, airmail etiquette cover franked KE VIII 2 1/2d and 1/2d. Caried by 'Castor to Alex andria, then by Hadrian to Baghdad. The first outgoing stage of this flight, by R A Castor, was INTERRUPTED TWICE, firstly by engine failure, and then by bad weather, see flight IE 521, Wingent p191. Copies of reports of these events on 6 and 8 February, taken from the Southern Daily Echo, and published in Wingent's 'Imperial Airways Empire Flying Boat Services 1936 to 1939' are included in this lot. A nice exhibit item.
