Description: Imperial Airways First Service Between South Africa and Australia. F/F South Africa to England, CAPE TOWN - LONDON on services AN 47/48. Flight left on January 27 but forced down at Broken Hill, Northern Rhodesia, delayed 7 days arriving Croydon February 16 with second dispatch. Flight by air terminated at London with application of red double bar Jusqu'a. Onwards by sea to Freemantle, where transferred to the Australian Perth-Adelaide service, Combination mail - no airmail service all the way. This cover was in Newall's personal collection and described as 'First service between South Africa and Australia' a shown in scan, but is not listed in his book. Ref # 32.03a, A.S.
