Description: Aquila Airways special survey flight, carrying the first airmail from the Falkland Islands to Great Britain, brown/grey printed souvenir cover, franked KGVI 1/- canc "Port Stanley/Falkland Isles/First Overseas Mail/1 MY 52". Aquila AW was founded in 1948 to serve destinations that were still inaccessible to land based aircraft. Their flying boats were also chartered for one off trips usually to deploy troops where scheduled services did not exist, or when there were political considerations, e.g. three Aquila flying boats were used during the Berlin Airlift. The 1952 Southampton-Falkland Isles survey flight was by far their longest charter. An uncommon historical item.
