Description: Uncommon 'Outer Envelope 'First Transpacific airmail flight, San Francisco to Honolulu, bs 23/11, commercial corner cover franked 50c ordinary, canc New York/Nov 18/1935 duplex, good strike green F/F cachet. Shortage of 25 'Clipper' stamps led to the production of 'outer envelopes' which were returned to dispatchers and are regarded as a legitimate inclusion in a Pacific collection (for a full explanation see p140, US AMC Vol 3). The lot also contains the original communication from the POD, Washington enclosed with the returned 'Outer Envelope'.

HK became the gateway for Far East mail addressed to points beyond and was forwarded by air, as far as India, at no extra cost by airlines of China and by Imperial Airways, scarce.
