Description: Railway Air Service, a scarce first flight, Douglas to London, bs 21 Aug Aug 34, via Manchester, flown to Manchester on the first day of the service, then by rail to London, an official cover franked KGV 1 1/2d and postmarked 'Douglas Isle of Man/ 10am/20 Aug 1934', typed "By Air from Isle of Man to London". According to Redgrove, p61, flown Douglas-Manchester covers are rare due to an error made by RAS officials at Douglas, who posted the bulk of the souvenir mail after the plane had left for Manchester. These bear a 4pm postmark. Only a handful were posted in time for the flight - these are postmarked 10am.

Description: Western Isles wartime services by Scottish Airways, Glasgow-Tiree, then boat to Stornaway. In 1941 the air Ministry placed a contract with Scottish Airways to fly private and official service mail only, to and from the isolated RAF units in the Western Isles. No civilian mail was carried. Northbound mail had to be addressed to a dedicated undercover GPO Box number in Glasgow. Plain cover addressed to RAF c/o Box 204 Glasgow (the number used for Stornaway), franked 2 1/2d, canc RAF Henlow 15 Dec 43 cds, ms confirmation of arrival on 18/12. This cover was flown from Glasgow to Tiree by Scottish Airways, thence to Stornaway by boat as air service held up by hurricane.

Description: A truly RARE first BEA 'All Up' service, Renfrew Airport, Glasgow to the Isle of Tiree, the most westerly island in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, plain cover franked 2 2/2d canc Glasgow 14 Jne 1948, large red "BEA/First 'All Up' Mail/Renfrew-Tiree/14 June 1948 with map of the islands. Beith states"little mail is known from the first day as the service was not well publicised". He reports having seen only ONE item of mail from this service. This was from this the outgoing flight , and it bore a red commemorative cachet (see Beith R, Scottish Air Mails 1919-1979, p22 and the illustration of the red cachet on the same page).
