Description: Western Isles wartime services by Scottish Airways, Glasgow-Tiree, then boat to Stornoway. In 1941 the air Ministry placed a contract with Scottish Airways to fly private and official service mail only, to and from the isolated RAF units in the Western Isles. No civilian mail was carried. Northbound mail had to be addressed to a dedicated undercover GPO Box number in Glasgow. Plain cover addressed to RAF c/o Box 204 Glasgow (the number used for Stornoway), franked 2 1/2d, canc RAF Henlow 15 Dec 43 cds, ms confirmation of arrival on 18/12. This cover was flown from Glasgow to Tiree by Scottish Airways, thence to Stornoway by boat as air service held up by hurricane.
