Description: Imperial Airways FIRST ?ALL AIR? SERVICE FROM EGYPT TO ENGLAND, bs Rotherham 5/2. Imprint etiquette cover franked 28ml, canc Cairo 1 Feb 37 cds. Carried all the way by C-Class Flying Boat ?Castor? which was delivered to Imperial Airways in January 1937. As these planes came off the production line they were introduced first onto routes between Southampton and Alexandria to gain operational experience and familiarise crews as to their use. This experimental/operational flight was the first ?all the way by air? service between Alexandria and Southampton, and was the precursor of the first regular eastbound ?all air? service, which opened on 8th Feb, 1937. A scarce item in fine condition.
