Intended for carriage by LATI but was sent, instead, via Transatlantic Clipper to France  where it was censored at Maubeuge on the French-Belgian border, and then returned to sender. Upon the French declaration of war against Germany on 3/9/39 Air France ceased all flights to Germany. So, on reaching Maubeuge, this cover could go no further and was returned to Brazil.  For this reason  Maubeuge mail is much sought after.

Under arrangements made by the British Red Cross Society and The Order of St John brief messages could be sent by relatives to persons residing in Enemy Territory. The messages we're limited to 20 words and had to relate to only to family matters.
