Trial flight, prior to the opening of the Usumbura-Entebbe service, Usumbura to Brussels, bs 13/12, imprint etiquette "Hold this envelope up to the light" cover, franked 3F 85, ms "Par 1ier vol Usumbura-Entebbe-Brussels", ms "1ier essai/avant l'ouvert regulier", typed "Imperial Airways". Likely Sabena service, although an IAW envelope. Regular service started on 13/2/40. A scarce item, and one for the specialist.

Sabena new service from Belgian Congo to Rwanda-Urundi, first return flight Usumbura to Costermansville, b/s, souvenir card. Airmail flights from Rwanda-Urundi are uncommon, this being one of only two recorded in Muller, Mu#2.

Rwanda-Urundi to USA, early World War II uncensored cover, carried on the temporarily restored wartime SABENA service from Congo to Europe, then OAT to USA, Usumbura to New York, no arrival ds, air cover cover franked 9F 25 Ruanda-Urundi stamps, canc Usumbura cds, violet st line "Par Avion" cachet, typed "Par Avion SABENA via Marseille Horta/Etats Unis D'Amerique", dark blue/white airmail etiquette, flown by SABENA internal service to Leopoldville, then by the external service to Marseilles (Marignane Airport), then by Pan Am North Atlantic Clipper Service to USA via Horta. The regular weekly Congo-Europe service was suspended in Sept 1939 at the outbreak of WWII, but in Feb 1940 the French Government once again permitted flights into Marseilles. The Congo-Marseilles resumption, and its connecting air and sea links within the Congo, only lasted until June 1940.
