Perceived Value

(Bolivia) LAB unrecorded proving flight to demonstrate the reliability of the Junkers F13, (La Paz)-Cochambaba-Santa Cruz,  'American Consulate/La Paz Bolivia' cover, 10x20cm, 1924 franked 15c air, canc violet framed oval "Correo Aereo/? 01 ..25/Cochambaba-Santa Cruz, bs blue framed oval "Correo Aereo/Oct 2 19.5/Santa Cruz-Cochabamba", also ms 'Via Cochabamba'. Rated 15c postage, but no air fee paid, so probably carried by pilot, 'by favour'. There is no evidence of postal handling from La Paz, but the manuscript 'Via Cochabamba' and the 'American Consulate/La Paz Bolivia' suggests that La Paz was the place of origin. A non invasive vertical crease, but still a great historical item.

Prior to opening the Cristobal-Mollendo service on 17/5/1929, it is to be expected that that Panagra flew Bolivia trial feeder flights to coincide to test the potential involvement of Bolivia in the development of the Panagra West Coast Route. A potentially scarce and important item.

The Compagnie Generale Aeropostale airmail charge on this cover was double weight B1.40 x2 = B2.80, which was designated by the company hand stamp, rather than postage stamps. The Aeropostale La Paz - Tacna-Arica-Santiago service ended in March 1931. The addressee's name has been neatly covered, see scan.
