(Interruptions and Accidents) FORCED LANDING on the Australia to Singapore leg of the F/F Australia-UK, FRONT only, etiquette cover franked 1/6, posted Albion 6/12, addressed to Pilot Officer J.F.Hobbs, 100 Squadron, RAF Base, Singapore. Mounted on card with a handwritten note "First Australia-England air mail of Qantas service. Australia-Singapore Dec 15, then to India Imperial Airways Dec 17th. First aeroplane left Singapore 16/12/34. The above envelope was in my pocket during forced landing near Pulo Brakit (reef in the Singapore Strait) in the China Sea at 08.25 16/12/34. Picked up 10.00 by HMS Wren". She was commissioned at Hong Kong on 2 April, 1934 for service with the Eighth Destroyer Flotilla on the China Station). Walker p207 refers to Qantas's new fleet of DH-68A aircraft acquired to inaugurate the Brisbane-Singapore extension of the Australia-UK  service 'being grounded owing to an (unspecified) series of accidents' on this leg. Everything points to this cover having been involved. A RARE and unrecorded crash cover with unique provenance. A photoscan of HMS 'Wren' is included.
