After making an overnight stop at St. Nazaire, she was flying to Southampton on 31/12 (one day late) when she experienced engine trouble and was forced to land in the Channel near Alderney. She was towed to Cherbourg by the Swedish motor tanker Rigel, arriving at 06.00 on 1/1/39. Mails and passengers were flown to London by an Imperial AW plane, arriving the same morning, but two days late. COVER SIGNED BY PILOT Comdr. G.S .BROWN/31/12/38, Ref #381231, Sandford £250/300.
