(GB External) Early acceptance of GB mail for acceleration to Nigeria by the Latecoere Toulouse-Dakar service, London to Minna, bs 7/5, via Dakar 18/4 and Lagos 5/5, plain cover franked 1/3d, ms "Par Avion de Toulouse a Dakar", black/royal blue etiquette P25. From Dakar likely carried 550 miles by coasting steamer to Freetown, then 1200 miles to Lagos on the Elder Dempster Liverpool-Lagos mail boat. This route was seldom used as sea services from Dakar to Freetown were unpredictable. For a discussion of this route see McCaig's article on West African Airmails, page 13, Postal History Journal, October, 1979. Superb routing, and a fine example of an early, seldom used service to Nigeria.
