Description: First acceptance of mail for South Africa, Normanton to Entebbe, bs 9/1/35 8am, via Cairo 22/12, carried on first regular Imperial Airways/Qantas Australia-England service, souvenir red/white/blue 'Kangaroo' company cover, franked 2/3d inc 1931 KS 6d x4, canc Brisbane/Airmail cds 7/12, ms 'Australia-Egyp-S.Africa' and a framed 'Par Avion/Jusqua (ms) Cairo' which is overstamped by an Australia framed 'Forwarded By Air' cachet. Correctly rated 2/3d for carriage all the way to Uganda by the Australia-UK service to Cairo 22/12 and the (London)-Cairo-Cape Town surface to Entebbe (see Wingent p130). Additionally there is an Entebbe 11 Jan 11.30am and a Kampala 11 Jan 4.30pm cds. Most likely the Jusqua caused confusion at Cairo which delayed OAT until flight AS 202. A fascinating item with great routing and definitely one for the exhibit. Image.
