No US censorship of mail from Europe until December 1941, when USA entered the war. Pan Am westbound flights from Lisbon escaped British censorship in the Caribbean between March-September 1940 by overflying Bermuda, refuelling at Horta, then onward direct to New York. However, this particular cover managed to escape Caribbean censorship in Jan/Feb 1941. A useful comparison with LATI with regard to censorship and postal rates.

Italian censorship markings on LATI covers are quite rare (Beith p48). One of only eight commercial covers from Italy to Argentina found in a review of 183 westbound LATI dispatches.

LATI mail to USA from Italy is scarce.

Carried by LATI shuttle to Lisbon, then trans Atlantic carriage to US by Pan Am FAM 18 to New York. Correctly rated 1.25L surface + 2.75 airmail for carriage to USA by Pan Am, see Boyle p488.
