Scarce early airmail, Tehran to Paris, via Baghdad, 14/3 transit cds, unusual black/cream 'Lion with sword and rising sun' logo cover franked Iran 2x24ch & 12cc (all with 'Controle opt to prevent use of stamps stolen in transit from Dutch printers), canc Tehran dr cds, purple two line framed "Poste Aerienne/Baghdad-Caire" cachet, ms 'By Air Mail', flown from Baghdad to Cairo on the Royal Air Force Cairo Baghdad Service. Much of the airmail at this time originated in Persia (Iran). It ws accepted subject to the appropriate air fee and a clear 'By Air Mail Baghdad-Cairo' marking - hence the cachet. Two small closed lh edge tears, minor flap damage, ironed vertical crease, otherwise good.

First airmail from Iran (Persia) to Greece, Lingeh to Athens, bs 9/2, plain cover addressed to Drossos, franked 49Ch, canc Lingah 5/2 cds, violet two line "Lingeh/Overture Service Aerien" 1st flight cachet. This flight was also the first from India to connect at Bushire with the Junkers Luftverkehr service to Tehran, Service IW44, see Wingent p34. Written up on album leaf with map of route.

Imperial airways, early airmail, Tehran to Sydney, via Bouchir Arrivee cds and Bombay, 8/8, plain cover franked 30Ch ars on front and 1ch air & 1Ch 4Kr verso, canc Tehran 1/8 cds, fine strike black two line Jusqu's applied in Karachi, violet "Air Mail" hs, ms "Shortage to be covered in Australia". The transit time of this cover from Iran to Australia was accelerated by carriage on the Bushire-Karachi leg of the Imperial Airways England-India service, flight # IE 123. This antedated the 1933 and 1934 extensions to Rangoon and Singapore, and to Brisbane, respectively. A great example of early accelerated airmail from the Middle East to Australia. In very fine condition.
