Yaounde is 600 miles from Lagos, likely by Sabena from Leopoldville to Lagos, then BOAC or sea to UK. Between August 1940 and the summer of 1943 , the heart of Free France was located, not in London, but in Chad, Cameroon, or Oubangui-Chari (modern-day Central African Republic).

Now increasingly sought after by collectors as only a relatively small amount of airmail to Japanese POW camps has survived.

The production of a postcard, rather than any other form of stationary stemmed from the Japanese refusal to allow prisoners to receive more than 50 words in their correspondence. This was later reduced to 25 words.
